I’m always looking for great recipes for healthy pasta. And it’s not that I’ve been cooking overly healthy or under-processed – the problem is I don’t want to put out more calories. This article is to help you eat healthier and get healthy pasta on the table without suffering.
Make It Healthy
Pasta is not a “healthy” food by any stretch of the imagination. When we talk about health, we’re talking about the opposite – an all-around good healthy diet and lifestyle. It is fine to eat white rice, or brown rice or brown bread, but when you start adding starch and sugar to it, what does that do to your body?
You’ll be eating more bad carbs. How bad? It has been proven over again that when you add starch to your pasta it will also cause your blood sugar to spike up and then drop down to a lower level.
Just think about that for a second, the “good” carbs like pasta will spike your blood sugar and then drop down after you take it out of your mouth. I know that if I didn’t put some type of starch in my pasta before I ate it, I would have spikes and dips in my blood sugar for the first few hours.
Consider Starchy Foods: Pasta Recipes
Starchy foods trigger insulin which will cause your blood sugar to the dropdown. This causes more insulin to be produced and stored as fat. Now you can eat whatever starch you want – it’s still a threat.
Now I can understand that some people like pasta because it’s so darn tasty foods with little fat and carbs, and they like to eat it with a salad.
You want to avoid starchy foods in order to eat more healthy recipes. If you’re eating spaghetti or a wheat tortilla with tomato sauce, you’ll still be taking in unhealthy carbs and calories. Your pasta isn’t the only thing you’re eating, but just one of many.
Whole Grains: Pasta Recipes
Even whole grains like bread and brown rice have a high amount of carbohydrates and therefore will cause you to gain weight. But pasta is higher in carbs than fruits and vegetables. If you’re going to eat a serving of pasta, make sure it’s a whole grain one. Otherwise, you’ll be taking in a lot of carbs and don’t want that.
Another thing to remember is that a jar of low-fat, full-fat, or reduced-fat spaghetti may contain oil and/or vinegar.
If it only has fat content, check out the number of carbs per serving. It could be that it has too many carbs per serving.
If you eat too much pasta, you’ll feel hungrier after eating it, and your stomach will empty at a much quicker rate. Remember to eat less of it, and your metabolism will increase more rapidly and your body will burn off more calories.
